The ALAS Xmas Party took
place on Saturday 2nd of December 2006 at Brynmill Community Centre (St Alban's
Road, Brynmill, Swansea) from 7:30 - 10:30 pm.
There was lots of fun with a PIÑATA & Santa Claus for the kids, Live
Music and Carol Singing, Xmas food, drinks, Latin American music and
dancing.
29th September to 1st October 2006
a Weekend of Dance, Percussion & Poetry at the Dylan Thomas Centre.
On Saturday 2nd September 'Fuego Latino' performed at 7:30 pm at the Pembroke Festival.
Also on Saturday 2nd September Rio came to Swansea at Brangwyn Hall (Showcase Event - 8 pm to 2 am £10).
On Saturday 19th August 'Fuego Latino' dance group performed with 'Descarga Cubana' at the Millennium Centre Foyer, Cardiff.
The MAS Swansea Carnival FREE Workshops to help make your own costume and participate in the parade took place in the Counterpoint Theatre, Uplands. The Carnival was on Saturday 26th of August from midday onwards.
ALAS DANCE GROUP 'Fuego Latino' was invited to perform during the Eisteddfod National Festival of Wales (5-12 August).
Saturday 22nd July Outing to the Millennium Centre, Cardiff
to see Carmina Burana (direct from Seville: timeless masterpiece...stunning Spanish choreography, Flamenco dancing, guitars etc), with
tickets from £5. ALAS arranged transport in various cars.
Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th June
ALAS Dance group performed at 1:00 pm both days at the Waterfront Museum, Swansea, as part of Refugee
Week.
Saturday 17th June - Sunday 18th June
ALAS members participated in the Natural Living Show at the DRAGON HOTEL, Kingsway Circle, Swansea
with Ruth from ZEN ACUPUNCTURE & CHINESE MASSAGE.
Saturday 3rd June Lambada Demonstration and Workshop + Brazilian Food
Once again it was time for the FESTA JUNINA
and this year our Brazilian members offered:
- A Lambada Demonstration & Workshop
- Brazilian Food
- Brazilian Crafts & Raffle
Venue: Brynmill Community Centre, St. Alban's Road, Brynmill
Doors open 7.30 pm. Demonstration started at 8.00 pm followed by Workshop, Food & Raffle.
The room was beautifully decorated with Yellow and Green designs and
people wore Brazilian T-Shirts.
Saturday 6th May AGM with Trilingual Poetry Reading and Guitar
Venue: Brynmill Community Centre, St. Alban's Road, Brynmill
Doors opened at 7.00 pm. Meeting started at 7.30 pm with AGM (to elect a new Committee)
followed by a Trilingual Poetry Recital (Spanish, English and Welsh) of some of Chilean Poet Pablo Neruda's most loved poems. There was also guitar playing.
Saturday 1st April Food Tasting and Recipe Swapping
Venue: Brynmill Community Centre, St. Alban's Road, Brynmill
Doors opened at 7.30 pm and closed at 10.00 pm
Members cooked dishes and brought them to the meeting. Some of the recipes can be seen here.
Non-alcoholic refreshments were available and you could bring your own bottle.
On Friday 3rd March ALAS dance group performed in the
Taliesin Theatre (University of Swansea campus) as part of the International
Students Festival.

Brazilian Party with Brazilian food and dancing
On Saturday 7th of May ALAS held its AGM at 7:30 pm, when a new Committee was elected and ratified, followed by an Illustrated Talk and delicious Welsh/Argentinean Food tasting. The title of the talk was: 'Wales meets Patagonia': Talk & Slides.
ALAS participated in the SCVS Charities Fair on Saturday 16th of April between 10 am and 1 pm. at the Brangwyn Hall, Swansea. ALAS could be found in Stalls No. 54 & 55, selling beautiful Latin American Crafts from Ecuador, Mexico, Venezuela and Brazil.

February 2005 - Latin American Festival
FIRST SWANSEA LATINO FILM FESTIVAL, part of an International Latin American Film Festival organised by Chilean Director, Sergio León.
Pontardawe Film Society is showing Latin American films on 29 March, 5 April and 12 April. Details are available from the Society's website or by phoning (01792) 863722.
January 2005 - ALAS Outing
ALAS Committee members are planning to attend one or both of the following events, which will take place in Cardiff's CHAPTER Arts Centre (Market Road, Canton, Cardiff ~ www.chapter.org):
- PATUA Dance - a Carnival night of Brazilian dance, music and storytelling

- ANDREA SEVERA DANCE COMPANY's progress performance (with Artists from Wales and Latin America - Argentina, in particular)
Date: Saturday 22nd January at 8 p.m.

Latin American Xmas Party, 7:30 pm on Saturday 4th of December, 2004 at St Benedict's Hall, Llythrid Ave, off Sketty Rd, Swansea, with Xmas Carols in three languages (Spanish, Portuguese and English), PIÑATA and Father Xmas for the children; also Salsa music to dance the night away, after eating a sample of Latin American Xmas dishes prepared by the Committee members.
We ask all members and all those attending to bring a typical Xmas dish from their country/region. Also, bring a bottle, if you want wine, beer etc. ALAS will provide non-alcoholic drinks.

ALAS Committee members will be distributing an ALAS leaflet during the
afternoon in Castle Square. Some of us might join in the fun and be
dressed up in typical costumes!!!

on how well Spanish is developing as a truly international language across the globe.
Refreshments (tea, coffee, fruit juice and biscuits) after the talk as well as an opportunity to discuss the topic further and to chat to people informally.
